These Workers Compensation Board guidelines are intended to assist healthcare professionals in making decisions regarding the appropriate level of care for their patients with ankle and foot disorders.
The guidelines are not a substitute for clinical judgement or professional experience. The ultimate decision regarding care must be made by the patient in consultation with his or her healthcare provider.
Anti-Convulsant Agents for CRPS
Anti-Convulsant Agents for CRPS is recommended For the treatment of severe CRPS, it is only seldom advised that The attempt at treatment using NSAIDs, additional drugs, and progressive exercise program, and whether therapeutic effectiveness can be proven.
Generally not recommended, although may be taken into account for severe chronic CRPS used as a fourth- or 5th agent by healthcare professionals who are familiar with its application and capable of closely observing patients for negative effects. Progressive strengthening should be tried as the first line of treatment.
Continued aerobic exercise is advised. Other factors relating to prior therapy consist of more physical activity, NSAIDs, bisphosphonates, and antidepressants (TCA and SNRI).
Duration and frequency are determined by the manufacturer. Duration for
Patients with CRPS may be treated indefinitely, even if many of them do not need indefinite therapy as the illness normally improves or resolves spontaneously.
